IT Projects

The first grant I ever wrote was to purchase the first two desktop computers ever installed at Highland Hospital in Charleston, WV.  The first program I installed was a 'flat' database program called "Q&A". I didn't walk away from the computer for the next three days! At my core I am a database developer. I love taking disparate bits of information and organizing them so that it is useful to the people who need the resulting information to make decisions. Substantial projects over the years include:

CDC/ATS Telpehone Survey Specialist Performance Evaluation System
Multi-user application written in MS Access 2003. This application was developed to assist in the management of a call center established to conduct a statewide tobacco use survey. The survey was conducted according to specifications developed and monitored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The survey was conducted by up to fifty individual surveyors. The application queried local data generated as calls were conducted. The resulting datasets were used to establish baseline measures for surveyor productivity and develop projections for subsequent survey projects.

Continuing Education Events Management Database

Jarrett-Aim Communications Inventory Manager
Multi-user application developed in MS Access 1997. This application tracked supplier and customer information.

New Era Homes Quote Generator
Multi-user application written in MS Access 1997. This database provided a user-friendly order from that could be utilized by sales staff to generate quotes for custom-built homes. Key feature of system was to use conditional logic to accurately estimated interstate transportation costs based on number of units, state, and local government destination.

Kriebel Wells Purchase Order Manager

Klingensmith's Drug Store Online Orders Reconciliation Manager

Clarion Rehabilitation Services Patient Management System
Multi-user application developed in MS Access 1997. This database was originally designed as a clinical outcomes manager for quality assessment and improvement applications. Data points included comprehensive patient demographic information, insurance coverage(s), referring and treating physician information, and clinical procedures.

Clarion University Student Health Service Clinic Management Software (SHSPro)
Multi-user application developed in MS Access 1997. By far this application is my proudest accomplishment. It provided a comprehensive student health services information management solution. Incoming students completed a health history form that representing baseline data for any visits to the health center. The system provided an automated sign-in process for students visiting the center, an dynamically updated superbill for use by the treating clinicians, and an invoicing protocol that calculated prices based on actual formulary cost data and nationally standardized usual/customary/reasonable charges for any procedures performed in the clinic. A one-click interface generated paper-based reports summarizing key operating information. Additionally, the system provided an export function that automated the process of uploading patient charges to the University's SAP accounting system.

Highland Hospital Credentialing and Privileging Database
Single user application developed in Borland Q&A. This application tracked physician credentailing and privileging information for all physicians currently on staff or applying for privileges at an 82-bed private psychiatric hospital. Automated reports simplied the process of credentials verification as required by accreditation standards. .

Highland Hospital Risk Management System
Single user application developed in Borland Q&A. This applicaton was used to transcribe incident report information from a paper-based. The resulting data was used to generate reports representing specific incidents and trends. All information was stardardized based on total patient days as represented by hospital census data.
