What I've Done

I've always seen things differently. Not better. Just, different. In the sixth grade I held a camera up to a $.05 viewfinder at the Hawks Next Overlook in Hawk's Nest State Park. I waited a week for that roll to come back in the mail to see what kind of innovation I'd pioneered. The results sucked. I got better.

Pittsburgh was my destination city, since 1983. In 2012 I realized that objective and embraced it the best way I knew how: with a camera. A digital camera. Suddenly and unexpectedly, that opened up whole new realms. I started experimenting and, almost immediately, Abstract Pittsburgh was born.

My process was rooted in exploring every facet of the city. Everything was shiny, and new, and exciting. My partner - Denise - and I would wander the city indulging restaurants, breweries, cideries, views, events two of which I. Don't. Miss: Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and Pride.

With every step I captured images. And usually twisted them up. The result is images that engage. My most appreciated compliment is that people will stop and look at my work, and put energy and effort into figuring out what it is. The experience is consistent: Whoah, that's cool. Wait . . . what is that? I KNOW that place. #woahdude

I hope that is your experience here.

What We Can Do Together

If you have something - someplace - that is important to you, we can capture that in a way that is unique and engaging. Details you appreciate but tend to be lost on others - we can turn that into an image where the viewer can't help but ask - wait, what? Tell me more.

My work is oriented toward architecture, engineering, automobiles, and nature. Places and things. I'm not a portrait photographer. I love to include personal features - treasures, trinkets, artifacts, and heirlooms - but the human subject is something I tend not to approach. Not an aversion - the contrary really. It's just a separate skill I've not developed. (I can suggest some awesome folks though!)
